During the sermon itself, there is some time that I spend at the beginning making comments about the movie and showing a few slide pictures I have of when I drove some JH students to a Catholic Shrine in Montreal, Canada.
Official comments sent to the news media concerning the movie Passion of the Christ
Eventually I finally get into the sermon, with the following as a general
outline.
Then we visit Ezra 9:1-15 or so
and see how Ezra was totally shamed - over his head, etc.
On to Jeremiah 6:15 and
8:12 where we see that the people are NOT ashamed - they don't
even blush! That is how we are today in our Laodicean Era - we have
very little that shames us anymore these days.
II. Crucify the World
Galatians 6:14
Romans 12:1-3
1. Acts
5:41; II Timothy 2:12
It is a shame that we won't suffer for his name
today!
2. I Corinthians
6:1-8
It is a shame that we can't get along with the
brethren over 'rubbish.' Why can't folks just accept be labled as
the 'wrong one' even when they are not? Why must we go to the unsaved
- to the lawyers - to get our differences resolved? That is a shame
when we won't allow ourselves to be defrauded! It works the same
way in a household with brothers and sisters, too - ha, even sometimes
among the husband and wife, eh!
3. I Corinthians
11:6
Short hair on women is a shame! Why are
we not shamed these days?
4. I Corinthians
11:14
Long hair on men is a shame! Why are we
not shamed these days?
5. I Corinthians
15:33,34; II Timothy 2:15
No knowledge of God being taught to the unlearned
by those who HAVE the knowledge of God! That is a shame!
6. Ephesians
5:12
Talking about things done in secret is a shame.
Our humor and conversations get pretty 'low' at times. There ought
to be the phrase, "We don't talk about that in public!"
Overall, the sermon dealt with shame and the movie portraying Christ's shame is not something a serious Christian would attend. Why would we want to see our Saviour shamed again? Once was enough!
