What's
In the Old Testament "FOR" Us?
Part LXX
|
Now
all these things happened unto them for ensamples:
and
they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are
come.
I
Corinthians 10:11
For
whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning,
that
we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.
Romans
15:4
Because
of mine house that is waste,
and
ye run every man unto his own house.
1:9b
9. Is
this how it 'really' is for you?
-
1:9: Ye
looked for much, and, lo, it came to little; and when ye brought it home,
I did blow upon it. Why? saith the LORD of hosts. Because
of mine house that is waste, and ye run every man unto his own house.
-
Running back to
our old house - the flesh?
-
The Spiritual
battles are too rough for you?
-
(Note:
of course the portion of the temple that God is in, is holy! But
what do we do with this temple that God is in?)
-
Do we also ever
wonder why it appears that our 'works' and plans are not being 'blessed
by God?'
-
We know there
is no chastisement...
-
...but how about
reaping what we sowed by not following Biblical principle, Scriptural direction,
etc. - not ways of Paul nor his manner of life, etc. Acts
27:21-23
-
Why would we expect
it to go well?
-
Do we want the
god of this world to bless it?
-
So when it doesn't
go well, do we do 'our own house' instead of looking at like it is His?
-
Do we go back
to the flesh to do things - even if we have to appear with our church face?
-
See
Galatians 3:1-4 - O foolish Galatians,
who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose
eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you? This
only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law,
or by the hearing of faith? Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit,
are ye now made perfect by the flesh? Have ye suffered so many things
in vain? if it be yet in vain.
-
A bad testimony
to others = a bad looking house for God to others!
-
God doesn't need
any more bad examples - He has plenty already!
-
A false testimony
= a false looking house for God to others!!
-
God doesn't need
any more false examples - He has plenty already!
10-11.
Not like in the OT days, our payment has been paid today - whew, be thankful
... physical chastisement won't 'be' today - His words are hard enough!
-
1:10-11 - Therefore
the
heaven over you is stayed from dew, and the earth is stayed from her fruit.
And I called for a drought upon the land, and upon the mountains, and upon
the corn, and upon the new wine, and upon the oil, and upon that which
the ground bringeth forth, and upon men, and upon cattle, and upon all
the labour of the hands.
12.
Yahoo - some people actually obeyed - Yes, they did - can you believe it?
Hardly a common thing today!
-
1:12:
Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua the son of Josedech, the
high priest, with all the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of the
LORD their God, and the words of Haggai the prophet, as the LORD their
God had sent him, and the people did fear before the LORD.
-
Obeyed the voice
of the LORD!
-
Obey the King
James Bible - 1611; I Corinthians 13:10
-
Obey the very
words of the Lord and the words of the preacher - and today, the words
of the rightly divided KJB!
-
Ephesians 4:11,
etc.
-
Follow Paul's
epistles today
13. "WITH"
them in the OT and future, but "IN" us today!
-
1:13: Then
spake Haggai the LORD's messenger in the LORD's message unto the people,
saying, I am with you, saith the LORD.
-
Note again:
-
Old Testament Temple / Tabernacle, etc.
-
Today - Paul's Dispensation of Grace
-
God is IN
Us
-
Romans 8:9-11
- But ye are not in the flesh, but in the
Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have
not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. And if Christ be in you, the
body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you,
he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies
by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
-
I Corinthians
3:9 - For we are labourers together with
God: ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building.
-
II Corinthians
6:16 - And what agreement hath the temple
of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath
said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God,
and they shall be my people.
-
Ephesians 2:21,22
- In whom all the building fitly framed
together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: In whom ye also are builded
together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.
-
Ephesians 3:17
- That Christ may dwell in your hearts
by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,
-
After new heaven and a new earth
-
God will be "with"
them!
-
Revelation
21:3 - And I heard a great voice out of
heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell
with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with
them, and be their God.
14.
A church workday - how about a workday for us personally?
-
1:14: And
the LORD stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor
of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest,
and the spirit of all the remnant of the people; and they came and did
work in the house of the LORD of hosts, their God,
-
I Corinthians
3:10 - According to the grace of God which
is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation,
and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth
thereupon.
-
Acts 20:32
-
And now, brethren, I commend you to God,
and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give
you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified.
-
II Timothy
3:16,17 - All scripture is given by inspiration
of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for
instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly
furnished unto all good works.
15: In
the four and twentieth day of the sixth month, in the second year of Darius
the king.
Who is left among you that saw this
house in her first glory?
and how do ye see it now?
is it not in your eyes in comparison of
it as nothing?
2:3
|
Chapter Two
1: In the seventh
month, in the one and twentieth day of the month, came the word of the
LORD by the prophet Haggai, saying,
-
The Lord spoke through His prophets THEN - not today!
2: Speak now to
Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son
of Josedech, the high priest, and to the residue of the people,
saying,
-
RESIDUE, n. That which remains after a part is taken, separated, removed
or designated
-
Are you part of the residue?
-
Are "we" all that is left?
-
I wouldn't figure that you are part of the residue if...
-
... you are trying to float to the shore instead of swimming?
-
... you are happy in your own personally designed creek?
-
... you are settled in your lees - out of the storm, etc.?
-
God was still speaking to the residue crowd.
-
Do you read your Bible and seem to get nowhere?
-
Do you fight what you read from God's mouth?
-
Not part of the 'residue' today, eh!
3: Who is left
among you that saw this house in her first glory? and how
do ye see it now? is it not in your eyes in comparison of it
as nothing?
-
Remember when you were still young? Our first glory? Lost but
doing well - fun, etc., or so you thought?
-
Not able to please God, even though maybe some of you tried - and probably
figured you had!
-
Ephesians 2:1-3 - ...who
were dead in trespasses and sins; Wherein in time past ye walked according
to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the
air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: Among
whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our
flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by
nature the children of wrath, even as others.
-
Titus 3:3 - For
we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving
divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating
one another.
-
Romans 11:30 - For
as ye in times past have not believed God, yet have now obtained mercy
through their unbelief:
-
Do ye see it now that you are saved?
-
Ephesians 2:1 -
And you hath he quickened...
-
Isn't our 'great' past "nothing" compared to what
it is like for us today?
-
How about tomorrow compared to today?
-
Romans 8:18 -For
I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be
compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
4: Yet now be
strong, O Zerubbabel, saith the LORD; and be strong, O Joshua,
son of Josedech, the high priest; and be strong, all ye people of
the land, saith
the LORD, and work: for I am with you,
saith the LORD of hosts:
-
be strong - be strong - be strong!
-
And especially today, we need to be strong - He is
IN us! It si HIS grace
-
II Timothy 2:1 -
Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
5: According
to the word that I covenanted with you when ye came out of Egypt, so
my spirit remaineth among you: fear ye not.
-
When we came out of the world...

Future Tribulation?
6-8 For thus
saith the LORD of hosts; Yet once, it is a little while, and I will shake
the heavens, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry land; And I will shake
all nations, and the desire of all nations shall come: and I will fill
this house with glory, saith the LORD of hosts. The silver is mine, and
the gold is mine, saith the LORD of hosts.
9: The glory
of this latter house shall be greater than of the former, saith the
LORD of hosts: and in this place will I give peace, saith the LORD
of hosts.
-
Yes, TODAY should be greater than it was before now that we are truly saved,
etc.
-
Ephesians 1:13b,c - We
are sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Which is the earnest of our
inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession...
-
Romans 8:18 -
For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to
be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
-
Peace?
-
So where is the peace? Real peace is only learned through Paul...
and the hope? the joy? the wisdom? the 'right calls?"
no more hypocrisy? etc.
-
We read about the true peace today from Paul?
-
Romans 5:1 - Therefore
being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus
Christ:
-
Romans 14:17 - For
the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace,
and joy in the Holy Ghost.
-
Galatians 6:16 -
And as many as walk according to this rule, peace be on them, and mercy,
and upon the Israel of God.
-
Ephesians 2:14,15 -
For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle
wall of partition between us; Having abolished in his flesh the enmity,
even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself
of twain one new man, so making peace;
-
Philippians 4:7 -
And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your
hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
-
Philippians 4:9 - Those
things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in
me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.
-
Colossians 1:20 -
And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile
all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth,
or things in heaven.
-
I Timothy 2:2 -
For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet
and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
-
Jesus' physical peace comes later!
-
Isaiah 9:7 - Of
the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the
throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it
with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The
zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.
-
Isaiah 32:18 - And
my people shall dwell in a peaceable habitation, and in sure dwellings,
and in quiet resting places;
-
Isaiah 59:8 - The
way of peace they know not; and there is no judgment in their goings: they
have made them crooked paths: whosoever goeth therein shall not know peace.
10-16 - In the
four and twentieth day of the ninth month, in the second year of Darius,
came the word of the LORD by Haggai the prophet, saying, Thus saith the
LORD of hosts; Ask now the priests concerning the law, saying,If one bear
holy flesh in the skirt of his garment, and with his skirt do touch bread,
or pottage, or wine, or oil, or any meat, shall it be holy? And the
priests answered and said, No. Then said Haggai, If one that is unclean
by a dead body touch any of these, shall it be unclean? And the priests
answered and said, It shall be unclean. Then answered Haggai, and said,
So is this people, and so is this nation before me, saith the LORD; and
so is every work of their hands; and that which they offer there is unclean. And
now, I pray you, consider from this day and upward, from before a stone
was laid upon a stone in the temple of the LORD:Since those days were,
when one came to an heap of twenty measures, there were but ten: when one
came to the pressfat for to draw out fifty vessels out of the press, there
were but twenty.
Even then, they still did not turn to God!
-
17: I smote you
with blasting and with mildew and with hail in all the labours of your
hands; yet ye turned not to me, saith the LORD.
-
18: Consider now
from this day and upward, from the four and twentieth day of the ninth
month, even from the day that the foundation of the LORD's temple was laid,
consider it.
-
Remember Paul's 'turns' verses?
-
Acts 26:18
-
Acts 26:20
-
What will it take for us to turn to God?
-
We give him our soul, why can't we give him our feet?
The blessings still came, even if they did not turn to God!
19: Is the
seed yet in the barn? yea, as yet the vine, and the fig tree, and
the pomegranate, and the olive tree, hath not brought forth: from this
day will I bless you.
20: And again
the word of the LORD came unto Haggai in the four and twentieth day of
the month, saying,
And it even gets better 'tomorrow!'
21: Speak
to Zerubbabel, governor of Judah, saying, I will shake the heavens and
the earth;
22: And I will
overthrow the throne of kingdoms, and I will destroy the strength of the
kingdoms of the heathen; and I will overthrow the chariots, and those that
ride in them; and the horses and their riders shall come down, every one
by the sword of his brother.
-
All the kingdoms become His!
-
Revelation 11:15 - And
the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying,
The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of
his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.
God will still most definitely used Zerubbabel!
23: In that
day, saith the LORD of hosts, will I take thee, O Zerubbabel, my servant,
the son of Shealtiel, saith the LORD, and will make thee as a signet: for
I have chosen thee, saith the LORD of hosts.
-
SIGNET, n. A seal.
-
Zerubbabel was given to be 'in charge' - the final
say in all matters concerning the temple.
-
Ultimately, Zerubbabel became Persian governor under
Darius, and after much delay, succeeded in rebuilding the Temple.
-
See Zechariah 4:1-14
-
Zechariah 4:9,10 - The
hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this house; his hands shall
also finish it; and thou shalt know that the LORD of hosts hath sent me
unto you. For who hath despised the day of small things? for they
shall rejoice, and shall see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel with
those seven; they are the eyes of the LORD, which run to and fro through
the whole earth.
-
Because of the deep personal interest he took in
the Temple, it was often called Zerubbabel's Temple.
