Joel

Once again, we see another source of the false gospel that is so prevalent today.

If anything of Joel is preached TO anyone today, it is to be considered profane and vain babblings!

I Timothy 6:20,21 - O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called: Which some professing have erred concerning the faith. Grace be with thee. Amen.
II Timothy 2:16 - But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.

When this book 'took place' was not indicated in the book itself.
The 'scholars' usually consider Joel to be one of the earliest of the prophets of Judah, in the time of Joash (about 830 B.C)

...or possibly in the rein of Uzziah (about 750 - B.C.).
So much for Biblical scholarship, eh!

The word of the LORD that came to Joel the son of Pethuel.
Hear this, ye old men, and give ear, all ye inhabitants of the land.
Hath this been in your days, or even in the days of your fathers?
Tell ye your children of it, and let your children tell their children,
and their children another generation.

Verse 4-6 - That which the palmerworm hath left hath the locust eaten; and that which the locust hath left hath the cankerworm eaten; and that which the cankerworm hath left hath the caterpillar eaten. Awake, ye drunkards, and weep; and howl, all ye drinkers of wine, because of the new wine; for it is cut off from your mouth. For a nation is come up upon my land, strong, and without number, whose teeth are the teeth of a lion, and he hath the cheek teeth of a great lion.

Palmerworm - A worm covered with hair; supposed to be so called because he wanders over all plants.
Cankerworm - A worm, destructive to trees or plants. In America, this name is given to a worm that, in some years, destroys the leaves and fruit of apple trees and springs from an egg deposited by a miller that issues from the ground.

Joel is not about the rapture!

Joel is about the last days - the second coming of Christ.

Second Coming Trumpet - Joel

Joel 1:15 - Alas for the day! for the day of the LORD is at hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come.
Joel 2:15 - Blow the trumpet in Zion, sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly:
Joel 2:1 -Blow ye the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in my holy mountain: let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for the day of the LORD cometh, for it is nigh at hand;
Joel 2:11 - And the LORD shall utter his voice before his army: for his camp is very great: for he is strong that executeth his word: for the day of the LORD is great and very terrible; and who can abide it?
Joel 2:31 - The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come.
Joel 3:14 - Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision: for the day of the LORD is near in the valley of decision.

This all certainly seems to be the common teaching by the modern churches / Rick Warren's, etc. and The Great Commissioners!
Joel 2:28-32-3:21

The Gospel Era - “I will pour out my Spirit on all people.… And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.… Swing the sickle, for the harvest is ripe.”

The big difference is the word 'on' when the KJB says 'upon.'

It is a huge difference, especially when looked at it today!

Holy Spirit today is IN us as we are circumcised spiritually; the Holy Spirit will be 'upon' them during the tribulation, just as Peter states in Acts 2:17.

Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision - Haley says is the 'harvest' of souls that the fields are talked about being white for...
The Messiah will institute an era of world evangelization under the leadership of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:16–21).
The passage (2:38-3:21) seems to be a picture of the Christian age, in which God's Word, embodied in the Gospel of Christ, and borne by the gracious influences of the Holy Spirit to all mankind, would be the sickle, in a grand harvest of souls.
In Acts 2:17 Peter quotes Joel 2:28-32 as a prediction of the day he was inaugurating. This means that God intended the passage to be a forecast of the Gospel era.

And with all that teaching of the Gospels days for today, note the opening paragraph:

Joel is a book of Coming Judgment.
Like Revelation, it forecasts the Earth's Harvests (3:13,14; Revelation 15:15,16)

All of this is the typical confusion of today's 'Christian Religion!'

Plowshares into swords!

3:10is just the opposite of the modern plowshares movements.

Why do they pick Isaiah and Micah instead of Joel?
Beat your plowshares into swords, and your pruning hooks into spears: let the weak say, I am strong.

Isaiah 2:4 - And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.
Micah 4:3 - And he shall judge among many people, and rebuke strong nations afar off; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up a sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.
Make war, not peace!
Christ would make peace but only through Paul for now - when He returns, peace will come - finally!

In Joel, we also see the terribleness of God's judgment!

Folks, come on - we are NOT seeing God's judgment today - anywhere!
No hurricanes, weather disasters, etc. Nothing yet compares to what God's judgment will be!
1:10-12; 16-20
2:2-10
2:11 - And the LORD shall utter his voice before his army: for his camp is very great: for he is strong that executeth his word: for the day of the LORD is great and very terrible; and who can abide it?

see Revelation 19:15 - And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.

Response should be: vs 12,13 - Therefore also now, saith the LORD, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning: And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the LORD your God: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil.
3:11-21

15,16 - The sun and the moon shall be darkened, and the stars shall withdraw their shining. The LORD also shall roar out of Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the heavens and the earth shall shake: but the LORD will be the hope of his people, and the strength of the children of Israel.
Why?

vs 17 - So shall ye know that I am the LORD your God dwelling in Zion, my holy mountain: then shall Jerusalem be holy, and there shall no strangers pass through her any more.

We also see how God will comfort His people.

2:18-27
3:19-21 - Egypt shall be a desolation, and Edom shall be a desolate wilderness, for the violence against the children of Judah, because they have shed innocent blood in their land. But Judah shall dwell for ever, and Jerusalem from generation to generation. For I will cleanse their blood that I have not cleansed: for the LORD dwelleth in Zion.
