Music Introduction Sermon
as Preached at Peoples Fellowship Baptist Church
Rocky Mount, NC

March 7, 2004

These are just general notes that I used in the sermon:

Nothing Southern in me except Bojangles chicken, Western Sizzler Chicken, Ryans Chicken, Wedding Rehearsal Dinner - man, folks sure do like chicken out here!

A few thanks concerning their help and care concerning David through his years in the Marines and a few comments about the wedding, etc.

With all the Lord has done for us... for me... for you... it is all still only called the earnest of the Holy Spirit in Ephesians 1:12-14.

and yet...  see Revelation 3:20.  Christ already abides in us - John 14:23, but He is knocking for fellowship!  He wants to sup with us.

As Bible Believing Christians, we have 2 major issues:

1)  God's Words and how we rightly divide them - II Timothy 2:15,16
2)  Our Praises and how to send them back to Him - Romans 1:21

The Devil gets in the way:
God's words
    Obvious - dark ages
    Subtle - change manuscripts, replace with new versions, replace it all with entertainment and movies...

Our Praises
    Obvious - rock, jazz, CCM, etc. etc.
    Subtle - "Christian Rock," New Age, Bluegrass, Southern Holler

I see this area as no longer the "Bible Belt" - I call it the "Church Belt!"

Music has gone from the heart to the feet; from the soul and spirit to the flesh!

Devil can even use "Good Music" (but "good" or "bad" music is not the main issue)

Devil has two issues:
1)  take away the word out of the hearts lest they should believe and be saved!  Luke 8:12
2)  gather them together to the battle of that great day of God Almighty!  Revelation 16:14

and yet, the Lord just wants to sup with you and me!

The Lord is concerned about:
1) our joy be His joy - John 17:13
2)  His Father's Glory - John 17:1-4

Music - the Great Thief

Satan can use your music against you as one of his weapons!

1)  Rob you of the work of the Holy Spirit!
2)  Rob you of the power of God!
3)  Rob God of His glory!
4)  Rob you of your fellowship with Him!
5)  Rob you of your personal meditations!
6)  Rob you of the truth!
7)  Rob people of true heavenly citizenship!
8)  Rob you of God's final counsel!
9)  Rob you of your second set of blessings!
10)  Rob Him or the praise and worship due Him!

Many Kinds of Voices
I Corinthians 14:10,11 - Barbarian...
Music is the Universal Voice
1)  Learn the language of music
2)  More importantly - learn the Scriptures about music
Are you living in the Vanity of Your Mind?
Ephesians 4:17-19 then to verses 20-24

We have been given a new song - Psalm 40:3; Ephesians 5:8-11
This new creature that we are made also must change it's music as part of our new song!

Is your new song a song unto God or unto the god of this world!

Is your answer concerning music:
1)  Your opinion?
2)  Based on Scriptures!

Why choose to be like 'them?'
Psalm 28:1

Instead, be like the folks in Acts 17:11

You trusted Christ's words concerning your soul...
You trusted Christ's words as written in this Book...

Now, trust Him concerning music and read about what He says!

1)  The real purpose of music!
2)  There is a perfect music!
3)  True worship and true praise!
4)  Helps for accompanists!
5)  Characteristics and dangers of the world's music!
6)  Practical application of music as we consider Shem, Ham and Japheth!
7)  The deceitful and deception in our children's Sunday School curriculums and choirs!
8)  Expose the music trend in our Bible Believing Churches
9)  How to "Triumph" in His praise!
10)  How America went from Philadelphia to Laodicean!
11)  The influence of the occult on "Christian" music, especially for us KJV Only Church families!

Luke 4:4 - we must live our life by every word of God - that includes music!
