God's Witnesses

Beyond the Three!
This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.  For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.  If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son.  I John 5:6-9

Review from last week:
We heard last Wednesday evening that "It is still All About God!"
God's 2 "wills"
John 6:38-40
1) everlasting life
2)  everlasting inheritance

...walked by Jesus Christ as God directed Him to do...
John 4:34, 5:30; 6:38-40
...talked by Paul as Jesus Christ directed him to do...
Acts 9:15,16; 26:17-18; 28:31; Galatians 1:4,5; I Cor 2:1-8; 3:9,10; Galatians 4:4-7; Romans 8:16,17

We see that it truly was Paul's own personal desire that we know God's will.
Will #1; Will #2
Romans 12:1-2; Ephesians 5:14-17; Colossians 4:12

Sermon Introduction
God Offered Himself!
And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering:
so they went both of them together.
Genesis 22:8
In today's ecumenical world of mush in the middle, we must know how to rightly divide God's will!

(the deadly testimony of the Reagan funeral, etc.)

In other words...
how God presented a true witness of Himself in the past,
how does God present a true witness of Himself today and
how God will present a true witness of Himself tomorrow!

Old Testament
Israel
Remember, in the Old Testament, it was God's chosen people who knew God first hand - a people who would hear and believe His words at first, but quickly forget them!
Psalm 106:12,13  Then believed they his words; they sang his praise.   They soon forgat his works; they waited not for his counsel:
Proverbs 1:24,25  Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded;  But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:

Gentile
The rest of the folks in the world,  the kingdom of the devil, the prince and power of the air, the Gentiles, etc. - had to rely on their conscience. Romans 2:14,15  For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves:  Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;)
Romans 1:18-20 - all without excuse because of their God designed and God given conscience.

New Testament
But now in the New Testament, there is a series of witnesses that need to be considered! Our consciences are seared these days, and lost folks can't SEE anything because they are blinded by the devil. (Jews are blinded by God)   We must be willing to believe by faith the witness that God has brought forth to us.  Each one was God's witness during it's/his time.  That is where true sight begins - with the Holy Spirit and a witness of the truth!  (John 16:8-13)

In fact, Jesus Christ's own testimony & record was rejected!
Strange as it seems to even consider, Jesus Christ Himself says that his witness is not true. John 5:31 If I bear witness of myself, my witness is not true.

Of course we know that His witness was a true witness, but lost people did not, do not and will  not accept His witness!

A true Record
John 8:13,14 tells all that His record is true, however.  People can ignore and reject both witnesses of Jesus Christ, but that doesn't change the record!  The Pharisees therefore said unto him, Thou bearest record of thyself; thy record is not true.  Jesus answered and said unto them, Though I bear record of myself, yet my record is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go; but ye cannot tell whence I come, and whither I go.

Hated without a cause!
John 15:24, 25   If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father.  But this cometh to pass, that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause.

Sermon Body
So who were, who are & who will be
true witnesses of God?
John 5:32-40
1.  John the Baptist!
 - to Israel!

John 1:6-8  There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.  He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.
John 5:32-35 There is another that beareth witness of me; and I know that the witness which he witnesseth of me is true. Ye sent unto John, and he bare witness unto the truth.  But I receive not testimony from man: but these things I say, that ye might be saved.  He was a burning and a shining light: and ye were willing for a season to rejoice in his light.

Don't forget, it was to Israel only!
Matthew 15:24  But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
Matthew 10:5-7  These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not:  But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.  And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.

2.  Works of Jesus Christ
 - as the Son of God & son of man - to Israel!

John 5:36  But I have greater witness than that of John: for the works which the Father hath given me to finish, the same works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me.
John 1:31  And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water.
John 10:23-25  And Jesus walked in the temple in Solomon's porch.  Then came the Jews round about him, and said unto him, How long dost thou make us to doubt? If thou be the Christ, tell us plainly.  Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father's name, they bear witness of me.

3.  God Himself
- through the person of Jesus Christ as God manifest in the flesh - to Israel!

John 5:37   And the Father himself, which hath sent me, hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape.
I Timothy 3:16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
I John 5:6-9 -

4.  Scriptures
 - to Israel up to that time, and now more inspired, preserved, written Scriptures
to be published everywhere from this generation for ever!

John 5:38-40  And ye have not his word abiding in you: for whom he hath sent, him ye believe not.  Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.  And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.

Those very Scriptures, rightly divided of course, continue to this day and onward forever,
tell us who it is that folks need to take heed concerning the testimony of Jesus Christ,
thus fulfilling the witness of the 2 will's of God!

5.  Apostles
...to the Jews - with the gospel with signs, miracles & wonders and then to the world!

Matthew 28:16-20  Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them.  And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted.  And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.  Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:  Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Mark 16:14-20  Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen.  And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.  He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.  And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;  They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.  So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.  And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.

Luke 24:44  And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.  Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,  And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:  And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.  And ye are witnesses of these things.  And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.

John 15:26,27  But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:  And ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning.

Acts 1:6-8  When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?  And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.  But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

John's testimony...John 21:24 This is the disciple which testifieth of these things, and wrote these things: and we know that his testimony is true.
Peter's testimony... Acts 2:14-40

Acts 5:12-16  And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; (and they were all with one accord in Solomon's porch. And of the rest durst no man join himself to them: but the people magnified them. And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women.)  Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them.  There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one.

The specific witness to Israel was set aside for now!  Acts 7; 13:44-48; 18:6; 28:28 and Acts 11!
Signs and wonders, etc. and the "Great Commission" are all done - for now!  I Corinthians 13:8-10   Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.  For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.  But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.

6.  Paul
...to the Gentiles and Jews with a different gospel - the gospel of grace!

Acts 9:15  But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel:
Acts 22:12-15  And one Ananias, a devout man according to the law, having a good report of all the Jews which dwelt there,  Came unto me, and stood, and said unto me, Brother Saul, receive thy sight. And the same hour I looked up upon him.  And he said, The God of our fathers hath chosen thee, that thou shouldest know his will, and see that Just One, and shouldest hear the voice of his mouth.  For thou shalt be his witness unto all men of what thou hast seen and heard.
Acts 26:15-18  And I said, Who art thou, Lord? And he said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest.  But rise, and stand upon thy feet: for I have appeared unto thee for this purpose, to make thee a minister and a witness both of these things which thou hast seen, and of those things in the which I will appear unto thee;  Delivering thee from the people, and from the Gentiles, unto whom now I send thee,  To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.
Acts 20:24  But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.
Romans 11:13  For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify mine office:
Romans 15:15,16   Nevertheless, brethren, I have written the more boldly unto you in some sort, as putting you in mind, because of the grace that is given to me of God, That I should be the minister of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles, ministering the gospel of God, that the offering up of the Gentiles might be acceptable, being sanctified by the Holy Ghost.
I Corinthians 14:37  If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord.
I Corinthians 11:1,23 Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.  Now I praise you, brethren, that ye remember me in all things, and keep the ordinances, as I delivered them to you.
I Corinthians 4:15,16 For though ye have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet have ye not many fathers: for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel.  Wherefore I beseech you, be ye followers of me.
Galatians 1:11,12 But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man.  For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.
II Timothy 1:13   Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.
II Timothy 2:7   Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things.
II Timothy 1:11 Whereunto I am appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles.
Titus 1:1-3  Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God's elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness; In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began; But hath in due times manifested his word through preaching, which is committed unto me according to the commandment of God our Saviour;

7.  US'ns - Today
You & Me are to 'BE' not just 'talk' a witness to all  the world!
the # 7 - perfect, completion - spiritually, that is!

We have the Holy Spirit in us and we have the sword of the Spirit - the Word of God.  Without us, the work & will of God can not & will not be done!
Romans 8:16   The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God...
Colossians 2:10  And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:
II Timothy 3:16,17  All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:  That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

Romans 10:13-15   For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?  And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

I Timothy 6:12   Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.
II Timothy 2:1,2   Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.  And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.

We must put forth BOTH WILLS of God!
1) everlasting life
2)  everlasting inheritance

We Are His True Witness for This Day!!!
You and your KJB!
The Book has the talk and we are to have the joyous walk...
and not the holy bondage walk, but the "love towards God" walk!

I Corinthians 8:3  But if any man love God, the same is known of him.

Paul's commission - Light!
Remember, Paul's commission was to open our eyes and turn us from darkness to light! Acts 26:18.

Gentiles switch with Israel!
And if we are getting what Israel was offered but they rejected, then we are now the light of the world - children of light - sons of God!
Acts 13:47 - reverse it and see that we are now a light to the Jews and to the rest of the world!
Romans 13:11,12  And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.  The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.
II Corinthians 4:6,7  For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.  But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.
II Corinthians 6:14  Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
Ephesians 5:8-11  For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:  (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)  Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.  And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.
I Thessalonians 5:5   Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.  Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.
I Peter 2:9,10   But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:  Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
II Peter 1:19  We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
I John 1:5   This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
I John 2:8   Again, a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true in him and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now shineth.

Proverbs 14:25   A true witness delivereth souls: but a deceitful witness speaketh lies. (Not an educated witness, but a true one!)
If we don't do a true witness, in talk AND in walk (not the holy bondage walk, but for the Love of God in return and with peace & joy) to a point where others ask about that hope that lieth within, it won't happen!   It won't!   If it does, it will someone getting saved by the skin of their teeth but it doesn't usually stick for them.  They either do Luke 4:12,13 or 14!!!

WE must be that true witness, not a false witness!

8.  Jesus Christ Himself
...To ALL - saved (Judgment Seat) & lost, deceived(White Throne Judgment) - I Timothy 3:1-7 and rebellious - Romans 1:18-32!

His Kingdom is not now...
John 18:36  Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.

...but HE will be the final witness.
THEN WILL IT BE "Thy kingdom come, on earth as it is in heaven!"

It Will be NOW!

Revelation 11:15  And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.
Revelation 1:5-7  And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,  And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.  Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.
Romans 14:11  For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.
Philippians 2:10  That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
Revelation 3:14  And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness...
Revelation 6:2   And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer.

And they still will blaspheme Him - in spite of the final witness and the final record!!!!!!!!
Revelation 16:9  And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these plagues: and they repented not to give him glory.
Revelation 16:11 And blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and repented not of their deeds.
Revelation 16:21  And there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven, every stone about the weight of a talent: and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof was exceeding great.

Bonus sermon - warning!
How the devil corrupts these witnesses!
Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil,
and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved.
Luke 8:12

1.  John the Baptist!
Preaches and teaches water baptism for remission of sins.

2.  Works of Jesus Christ!
Preaches and teaches that the works of Jesus Christ can be done today.

3.  God Himself!
Preaches and teaches the spirit of antichrist.

4.  Scriptures!
Preaches and teaches hundreds of corrupted manuscripts and bibles, etc.

5.  Apostles!
Preaches and teaches that the works of the apostles and the early church are great for building churches today.

6.  Paul!
Preaches and teaches Peter, Moses, angels, visions, etc. and mixes Paul's teachings with the gospels.  Wrongly picking after a Biblical education instead of rightly dividing straight from the Scriptures.

7.  Us!
a.  Make us a false witness through our unlearned mouth or the lazy rebellious and spoiled walk of the Christian who has 'it all now' but more willing to lose it all later!
(take the OT commandments of not bearing false witness and see that Paul also warns us to not bear false witness.(Romans 13:9)  Does our walk bear false witness?  Does our talk bear false witness?)
b.  Allowed Luke 8:12-14 to become all too real in their lives!
c.  Tricked others into thinking they are saved but instead will have to claim James 5:1-6 that their riches kept the word choked in their lives!
d.  Kept folks out of their Bible - away from doctrine, reproof, correction and instruction in righteousness!
e.  Stick to book chapter verse and ignore the spirit of the law for the letter of the law!  You can miss God's understanding and wisdom in your daily application of the Scriptures if you are not careful. Romans 7:6 But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.

8.  Jesus Christ!
Devil comes himself pretending to be Jesus Christ in Revelation 6!
